Product description

Anna Maria Russell, Duchess of Bedford (1783–1857), a lady-in-waiting to Queen Victoria, is credited with inventing afternoon tea. At that time, midday meals were supposedly becoming increasingly meager. As a result, the aristocratic lady suffered from a feeling of weakness between 3 and 4 p.m. After initially eating these meals in secret, other ladies-in-waiting later invited themselves to the Duchess's private apartments for an additional afternoon snack. This snack became so popular that it was eventually adopted by her guests. Afternoon tea was born.
